Why the first 12 days matter so much
During the first 12 days, grafts are extremely fragile. They gradually anchor into the scalp and must be protected from any trauma, friction or infection. Following the protocol rigorously is the difference between an excellent result and lost grafts.
Day-by-day protocol
Day 1 — The day of the operation
Rest at home, head elevated (two pillows). Protective bandana provided. Do not touch the grafted area. Prescribed anti-inflammatories + antibiotics. Light diet.
Days 2-3 — First washes
First gentle wash with the provided lotion and neutral shampoo. Rinse with lukewarm water, low pressure, no rubbing. Dry by dabbing with a clean towel.
Days 4-7 — Crust formation
Small crusts form around each graft: this is normal. Continue daily washes. Avoid sweating, gym, sauna, sun. Light walks allowed.
Days 8-12 — Gentle crust removal
Crusts begin to detach during washes. Gently massage with fingertips during shampoo to accelerate the process. By D12, all crusts should be gone.
The golden rules
- Sleep on your back, head elevated, first 7 nights
- No alcohol, no tobacco for 15 days (reduces oxygenation of grafts)
- No direct sun, cap mandatory outdoors
- No sports, pool, sauna for 15 days
- No hair products (gel, wax) before D15
Common warning signs
Slight swelling on D2-D3 (forehead, eyes) is normal. But if you notice intense pain, fever, unusual redness or discharge, contact us immediately. At Phoenix Hair Paris, we remain available 7 days a week during the post-op phase.
