Patience: the real challenge after a transplant
After an FUE transplant, regrowth is not linear. It follows a precise biological calendar that many patients find disconcerting. Understanding each phase helps avoid unnecessary anxiety.
Month-by-month calendar
Month 1 — Shedding phase
The transplanted hairs fall out. This is completely normal. The follicles are safely anchored, only the visible shaft detaches. The scalp returns to its pre-operative appearance.
Months 2-3 — Dormant phase
No visible activity. The follicles are in the resting phase (telogen). This is the most difficult psychological period — be patient.
Months 4-5 — First regrowth
Fine, thin hairs begin to emerge. Density is still low, sometimes uneven. The final result is starting to take shape.
Months 6-8 — Thickening
Hair thickens and gains density. You already see a clearly improved result. Texture may be slightly curly initially (normal, it straightens over time).
Months 9-12 — Approaching final result
80-90% of the final result is visible. Density continues to improve. The frontal line refines.
Months 12-18 — Definitive result
Maximum density reached. Hair has its normal texture. The result is definitive and lifelong.
How to optimize regrowth
- Strictly follow the post-op protocol (first 12 days)
- Consider capillary PRP at M+3 and M+6 to boost regrowth
- Balanced diet rich in proteins, iron, zinc, biotin
- Manage stress (cortisol is a hair's enemy)
- No tobacco, limited alcohol
When to worry?
If after 6 months you see no regrowth at all, contact us. This is rare and usually indicates an isolated factor (infection, contraindicated medication, untreated deficiency) that we can assess in check-up.
