What is FUE?
FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) is a minimally invasive hair transplant technique. Follicles are extracted one by one from the donor area (back of the scalp) using a micro-punch (0.8-1mm), then reimplanted in bald areas. Unlike the older FUT technique, FUE leaves no linear scar.
The 3 phases of an FUE procedure
Phase 1 — Extraction (2-4h)
After local anesthesia, the surgeon extracts 1,500 to 4,500 grafts one by one with surgical precision, distributing the extraction over the donor area to preserve its density.
Phase 2 — Preparation of grafts (30-60 min)
The extracted grafts are sorted under a microscope (1, 2, 3 or 4 hairs) and kept in a preservation solution at controlled temperature.
Phase 3 — Implantation (2-4h)
The surgeon designs the natural hairline, then implants each graft with the correct angle and direction. Single-hair grafts in the front line, larger grafts in the crown.
FUE advantages
- No linear scar: invisible micro-points in the donor area
- Fast recovery: 3-4 days of social downtime
- Natural result: undetectable hairline
- Local anesthesia: outpatient, you return home the same day
- Permanent result: lifelong density
Who is it for?
FUE is suitable for men (Norwood 2 to 6) and women (Ludwig I to III), aged 25 to 65, with a sufficient donor area. A personalized assessment is essential to validate the indication.
